Yeah, we do see this happen a fair amount - especially when the form/character is question has no flaws and is made by a creator who can't stand the idea of their creation losing.
I know people can get passionate about their fan-works when they're inspired by a show/film(s) and that's fine, but there needs to be some genuine creativity, realistic strengths/weaknesses and honest humility involved - otherwise the end result is no-one takes you or your creation(s) seriously.
(Please note, I'm not pointing fingers at anyone here - I'm just talking about generalizations).
